A selection of HM books from longtime friend & collaborator David Clifford’s library. A number of HM books were printed at, or with the collaboration of David’s Black Stone Press. He’s decided to start culling some of his many, many books…
Amalfi. The facsimile letter included in this book probably was my first experience printing with polymer. (The rest of the book was set in metal type.) $75
Innsmouth '05 deluxe & reg. David printed HM's 2005 edition of The Shadow Over Innsmouth. It was our first collaboration. At the time, the thought of printing a 200-page book with a handpress was beyond my ambitions. When David asked if I had any ideas for a book he could print, this was my suggestion.
TEL. Another early collaboration with David. As chronicles in This Monkey's Gone to Heaven, the book was printed by David after the type used for HM's initial attempt proved not up to the task. $300 (issue price)
Young Printer in San Francisco. Miniscule issue. $100
NNK. This pamphlet was issued to coincide with a exhibition of Shin's art at the long-missed Wessel & Lieberman in Seattle. Production was coordinated by HM (& I think I designed it too), with David Clifford doing the printing. This is one of -- special copies, with an impression printed by Shin laid in, and a wrap of paste papers made by Claudia Cohen.
Monkey & Doves (probably w/ facs. leaf)0
Azul. The tenth anniversary second edition, printed by David. $100
Printing with the handpress. One of 10 copies assembled from proof sheets, sewn in a limp case made from Reg Lissel's "vellum" paper (it's made from over-beater abaca, and has the feel and strength of vellum). Complete with all tipped-in leaves. These copies were distributed to colleagues and friends.
Metal Type. David spilled coffee on the dust jacket this book was issued with, so I printed a unique new one. Issue price ($750)
Some Papers.
Wither pamphlet with leaf. One of 19 copies given to friends & colleagues (like David). It includes a one-page introduction explaining what it is, a chapter (i.e. offprint) from Labour Vertue Glorie, a leaf from Wither's 1634 book of emblemes, and the text from that book that accompanied (expounded on) the emblem (so the leaf and its accompanying emblem text were unique to each copy). Sewn in paper wrap. $50
