A selection of books from The Aliquando Press that came from the printer, Will Rueter, after he recently moved to a smaller studio. Some are essentially studio/reference copies (i.e. out of series), some are lingering edition copies. They are offered here with Will’s blessing. Numbers refer to titles’ appearance in the excellent bibliography published by Gaspereau in 2024.

BK10. Suddens. Poems by Bradford Robinson, illustrations by Alan Suddon. 1965. 24 pp, 5.25 × 8 in. Linocuts are each printed in two colors. Edition of 120 copies (not numbered). Slight wear and soiling to edges of the yellow paper cover. Very good. $75

BK19. Digressions. Jan Schreiber. 1970. 25 pp, 4.5 × 8 in. Edition of 90 copies (not numbered). Slight sun fading to spine label, overall gentle wear to edges of paper wrap. Very good.

BK29. The Delight of Letters. The Private Press & Typefoundry of Paul Hayden Duensing & The Aliquando Press, USA, 1976. 6.25 x 10 in. The expression tour de force is often used too easily, but it applies here. A joyful collaboration between WR and Paul Hayden Duensing to exercise their shared love for playing with type. A collection of 30 small broadsides featuring quotes from Rudolf Koch, set in in a variety of Koch types and printed in multiple colors on a variety of papers. This is copy number 2 of 150, and is calligraphically signed by the two printers. The slipcase and paper folder containing the cards are a little weary-looking, but no tears or marks. I'd be OK calling it near fine, but a more conservative person would say very very good. $500

BK42. A Book Has a Life. 1979. 20 pp, 5.75 × 9 in. Edition of 100 copies (this copy o/s). Glued into stiff printed paper wrap. Very slight wear to the wrap's exposed edges, small glue stain along back fore edge. Very good. $25

BK53. Order Touched By Delight. 1982 edition (expanded from the 1976 version). 20 pp, 4.75 × 6 in. This copy marked h/c. Faint sunning to spine, small water stain to back lower right corner (not affecting inside sheets). $25

BK68. Three Sketches of Bali. 187. 39 pp, 6 × 9.75 in. #1 of 10 special copies cased in Dutch Java printed cloth over boards, signed by the author, & issued with a suite of the four reproductions included in the book. Fine, as issued. $250

BK72. Distant Tones. Colin McPhee. Linocuts by the W. Rueter. 1990. 41 pp, 6 × 6 in. #36 of 85 copies. Sewn in case made from Tyvek dyed by the printer. Fine. $100

BK73. Reminiscences of Mozart. M. Kelly. 1991. 28 pp, 6 × 9.5 in. Edition of 100 copies (this copy o/s). Sewn and pasted into Fabriano Ingres wrap with printed title & spine labels. Near fine. $100

BK80. The Stonecutter’s Dream. 1994. 19 pp, 6.5 × 9.5 in. #43 of 70 copies. Pasted into printed paper wrap. Near fine. $100

BK96. The Anguish of the Heron. Gaétan Soucy. Wood engravings by William Rueter, translation by Sheila Fischman. 2005. 43 pp, 5 × 9 in. Edition of 90 numbered copies. Three wood engravings each printed in two colors. Bound by WR in quarter cloth with somegami paper decorated by WR over boards. Fine/as new. [two copies, both numbered] $125

BK97. Gospel According to Inglis. 2005. 35 pp, 5.5 × 7 in. Edition of 70, this copy not numbered. French marbled paper over boards. Damp stain to lower right corner of entire text block, just along the edge but it's there. $50

BK108. Pressing Matters. 2012. 55 pp, 7 × 11 in. Marked h/c. Quarter cloth with marbled paper. Fine, in paper chemise as issued. The chemise is more of a PITA than anything else; the book is pristine. One of his more elaborate publications. $500. An old blog post about it can be seen here.

BK106. A Letter from Edward Johnston. 2010. 32pp, 7 × 9.25 in. Lovely two-color wood engraving by WR. Bound in some funky handmade Nepalese paper that almost feels like it was waxed. There is a 2cm split in the front joint near the head. It's not very obvious but it's there. I think this happened during binding: I don't think this paper was a good choice for the purpose. I also don't think this will get worse with handling, it'll just stay as is. Aside from this, the book is as issued/new condition. #40 of 40 copies. $100

BK113. Cats' Dream. Pablo Neruda. 2015. 10 leaves, 5.25 x 5.25 in. #7 of 30. Printed in two colors. Bilingual setting, printed in two colors. Two wood engravings by Maria Hofker-Rueter. Marbled paper over thin boards. Fine. $75

BK116. Season of the Roses. H. van Veldeke. 2017. 48pp, 5.5 × 9 in. Edition of 50 numbered copies. Bound by WR in quarter cloth with chiyogami paper over boards. Fine/like new.  $100
