CHASING PAPER
By Claudia Cohen

The third - and most ambitious - volume of bookbinder Claudia Cohen's ongoing series of books borne from her lifetime passion for papers of all kinds, Chasing Paper is a tour de force of design, display and construction. The book contains over 300 samples, from scraps to full fold-out sheets, all imaginatively combined and arranged. In broad categories, the papers include (to name a few) money, pre-20thcentury wallpaper, consumable packages, marbled, handmade, and labels, all varying in sizes from small scraps to full sheets. The book includes a one-page preface by Claudia explaining her passion for paper of all sorts, and providing some context for the selections included. This, the title page and the colophon were printed from hand-set type at Heavenly Monkey.

Each copy is laced into a heavy paper wrap (some white, some dark gray) featuring multi-color paper strips woven through the front board, and issued in a cloth-covered clamshell box. The issue price was US$1,250. Chasing Paper debuted at the 2007 CODEX Book Fair in Berkeley, and sold out before the three day show was over.

The last five copies to be issued (numbers 1-5) formed a deluxe issue, and feature a companion volume (Part Two) containing particularly rare samples too limited in supply for inclusion in the full edition.
